I'm not sure who the correct person to contact about this is, but I really =
need some assistance with this issue. It happened again today. From the RT =
ticket submitted to our queue:

Fri Sep 09 14:44:44 2011: Request 1730352 was acted upon.

Transaction: Ticket created by mariar

       Queue: Libraries::Fix

     Subject: Hayden LAN

       Owner: Nobody

  Requestors: mariar@mit.edu<mailto:mariar@mit.edu>

      Status: new

Ticket <URL: https://help.mit.edu/Ticket/Display.html?id=3D1730352 >

Once again today (for the third time and the second time this week) we had =
a mass stoppage of all the MIT Only Hayden machines - only if they were not=
being used. I had to restart machines and the restart worked on all but o=
ne. That one I had to restart two more times before it would work.

When a few of them came up they were fine but a few had a message on the sc=
reen that said "Software update being applied. This workstation temporary u=
navailable...". This message quickly (a minute or so) went away and the ma=
chines seemed fine.

Any thoughts on what would cause this behavior and how to prevent it from h=
appening?

Thanks

Subject: software updates?

Hi,

We recently converted our public computers in the Libraries to DebAthena, t=
he cluster installation. Today, all except one of the seven machines in Hay=
den Library were stuck at the Ubuntu screen with the five dots. We rebooted=
them and observed that at least some of them, if not all, ran software upd=
ates after the reboot and then ran ok.

This is the second time this has happened since we installed DebAthena on t=
he Libraries public machines. Is this a symptom of software updates being d=
eployed? Any suggestions for correcting this behavior?

Thanks
Pam
