I just got this information from our Alliance Plus Representative to Sun.
The information is subject to change, so we should use it in our
planning, but not to publicize to the outside world.

The next version of Solaris scheduled for release is 2.6.
The reason why there was 2.5.1 was that it was an increment to fully
integrate the Sparc Ultra support which was not fully there in 2.5.

There will be a Transfer of Information meeting in Mid November to
formally go over what is in 2.6. (We should probably send someone to
it.)

Beta testing will begin shortly aftr the ToI meeting (expect late
November early December.)

Formal release to customers can be expected in May or June of '97.

My next action item is to call up Transarc and see if they have folks
available to get early access to 2.6 so that they could make bazillions
of people happy by having AFS support come out at the same time as
Solaris 2.6.

I suggest we schedule contingent on Transarc's willingness to do this:

If they can't begin 2.6 porting in December with the 2.6 beta, we plan
on using Solaris 2.5.1 for Sept 97 release.

If they CAN do the 2.6 port in the reasonable time frame, we should TRY
and do Solaris 2.6 for Sept 97.
