What should we tell chad to tell Robin Rodriguez about our solaris 2.5.1 plans?
We've not scheduled doing the work.
There's the POSSIBILITY that it would be up for September...
My thinking is this:
It's important that Athena support the Ultra hardware, as a strategic
competitor to SGI. My impression is that doing a 2.5.1 port is not
difficult. We even have a Beta of AFS available for it.
We don't know what the timeframe is for a later version of Solaris, but
in any event, for Robin Rodriguez's purposes, it would not matter,
because anything LATER than 2.5 works on Ultras.
I SUGGEST we tell her:
1. We have not officially decided to work on Solaris 2.5.1 yet.
2. But there is a pretty good chance we WILL decide to.
3. If we do the work, she would not see it until August 1997 at the earliest.
Does this seem like a sane thing to say?
