We have in the past needed to run a couple of packages (like debootstrap, for supporting newer distros as the NOTES file mentions, and schroot, for newer features) from Debian testing. I don't think we've needed that recently, though, and adding that repository to grab one or two packages out of it is as easy on Ubuntu as it is on (released) Debian.

I'm pretty sure the latest version of Ubuntu would be just fine. A slightly older version like an LTS would also work, but we may need to backport more packages than usual.

That said, this would be losing the only Debian machine that I have access to, but our Debian testing machine probably ought not also be our build server....
