   It sounds like at this point that doing it costs more than not. It is
   possible that putting things back the way they were will break other
   things. But it is probably preferable to fix those other things and
   "unfix" the software we've been "fixing" now.

To make netscape usable whether or not the Delete and Backspace keys are
reversed, we made both keys delete backwards.  This means that
"unfixing" the software doesn't have to be precisely synchronized with
putting the Solaris keymap back the way it was.

It appears to me (from xev) that the sgi keymap is unmodified.  Is that
right?

By the way, a Netscape FAQ says:
  By default, Linux and XFree86 come with the Backspace and Delete keys
  misconfigured. All Motif programs (including, of course, Netscape
  Navigator) will malfunction in the same way.

By "misconfigured" I assume they mean the same keymapping as vt100's,
vaxen, rt's and DECstations.
