Done.

> Worth mentioning how to get out of -cluster (even if that's just "e-mail us"), or alternatively saying something indicating that if you have -cluster, unless you did something really strange, you don't have local data?

Sure, I can reassure people that they would have had to take explicit action to have local data. As for downgrading, there's no good answer that doesn't involve mucking with the chroot. I think it's "Plug in a USB drive and back up that data ~now"

New text below.

-------------------------

The Debathena Lucid public release is currently scheduled for the evening of Thursday August 26. As this release is the first automatic release upgrade for Debathena workstations, please read the following information carefully.

Only workstations with the "debathena-cluster" metapackage will automatically upgrade to lucid. If you're not sure which metapackage your workstation is running, you can use the "machtype -L" command to view this information. If you are not currently at your workstation, you can query it using athinfo: "athinfo <hostname> version"

As the upgrade process is designed for "debathena-cluster" machines, it *completely wipes the hard drive*. Under normal circumstances, "debathena-cluster" machines should not have any local data storage or custom configurations. They should also not be installed in dual-boot configurations. If you believe you have taken action to force a "debathena-cluster" machine to store local data, you should immediately copy that data elsewhere (such as into a location in AFS, or to an external USB storage device).

Users of metapackages other than "debathena-cluster" should follow the normal Ubuntu upgrade process[1] if they wish to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 ("Lucid").

Sincerely,

Jonathan Reed
for the IS&T Athena Release Team
