I would like some more though put into it, before making it wide open.
Maybe this already has been done, but it seemed to have been put on the
menu quickly. I would really like to hear some of the sounds and what
has to be done to get it work in the public clusters. What is the plan
if lots of people find this annoying?

                                        Thanks, Jerry

A request was made to the faculty liaisons to turn on sound support on
the DECstation platform. We think that it would be a good thing to do
to help out with foreign languages on Athena, as this would give them
the option of using either the DECstation or the Sun. I checked with
Craig Fields, and he can have the kernel changes made in time for code
cut.

The person making the request states

"The sound can be set to only play out of a port, so it can be used in a
public cluster without disturbing anyone."

Does anyone have a problem with squeezing this into the DECstation
release? (Other than the precedence of how things get into the release,
that is.)

Thanks,

        Dot
