Hi Prof. Braida,

The way that Ubuntu is usually set up is that a couple of accounts (the 
first account created, and possibly some others) are administrator 
accounts, and the password for that account is what Ubuntu is requesting 
for Update Manager and other administrative tasks through the GUI. The 
password for the "root" account is not often relevant.

So, try using the same password that you use to log in to your account.
