Tentative Agenda:

 * Athena 10 Status review.
 * Metrics

Present: wdc, broder, rbasch, jdreed, aurora, alexp, amb

Notes:

 * Monthly Status Report: Sent under separate cover.

 * Athena 10 Status review.
   Review top 10 list.

   debathena-131 (critical, resolved) Hard-coded a4 paper default
results in silent failure to print from dvips is fixed.
   ATN-50 (critical, resolved) Kernel oops from AFS on shutdown that
then hangs system. (Fixed in Jaunty. SRU requested for Intrepid
requested, but not required.)
   ATN-31 (critical, now demoted to minor) Cluster machines sometimes
reboot when you try to log out. New reactivate makes this happen less
often, and to easily state what the proximal cause was when it does.
  ATN-14 (blocker, being rolled out) Implement Quickstation Bugme
  ATN-9 (major, resolved) Sessions need clarification around support of
WINDOW_MANAGER and skip_directives is resolved with publication of
dotfiles docs.
  Adding debathena-148, ATN-61 and follow on to ATN-1 about Failsafe
sessions to top 10 list.

 * Athena 10 Questions:
    Q: How will we deal with roll-out of AFS security release?
    A: Because the vulnerability is not widely exploitable, we believe
it is safe to wait for an ubuntu Security Release.

    Problem of 127.0.1.1 ACL for tecplot and Cambridge Structural DB
(and maybe other software): Will test license management to see if
client-side address spoofing grants access. Will investigate adding
Fully Qualified Domain name to /etc/hosts for 128.0.1.1 for cluster, and
possibly other systems.

    Q: What is the appropriate location for sent, drafts, and possibly
trash folders? alpine's convention? or everyone else's?
    A: Consensus recommendation is: Follow example of Apple Mail,
Thunderbird, and Evolution to use folders named "Drafts", and "Sent".
We're defaulting to putting these on the IMAP server.

    Q: Can we remove elinks from -extra-software-nox and declare
      debathena-170 wontfix, using elinks2 instead?
    A: Yes.

 * Athena 10 Infrastructure Issues:

    1. Planning for ultimate disposition of athena10.mit.edu: see #2
below.

    2. moving debathena.mit.edu off of scripts to ops' server farm: We
will re-purpose the athena10.mit.edu VM to this.

    3. How to move from debuild to linux-build-10: amb will discuss with
ops expanding linux-build-10 to serve users of debuild users.

    4. The debathena locker should move from the sipb cell to the athena
cell after #2 is done.

 * Pondering the meaning of Metapackages

    After discussion, jdreed will document on the wiki based around the
question, "How does this change my system defaults?" in addition to the
already documented answer to "What functionality do I get?"

 * Review Kiosk mode issues.

   Logging out the kiosk mode seems to be problematic.
   We're going to investigate the usability of different ways to quit
kiosk mode.
   We expect most people will walk away without quitting, and we need to
deal with that.

 * Metrics: Tabled until gettes attends a meeting.

 * Other
    Q: What action should we take on Athena 9.4 about the AFS update?
    A: An update to AFS 1.4.9 is small and targeted. We should take it.
    Although there are other things could go in a patch release, we'll
    leave them out.

-Bill
