Athena Release Team: Tuesday 24 March 2009 at 1:30 PM in W91-250.

Next meeting will be Tuesday April 7, 2009 at 1:30 PM in W91-250.

Tentative Agenda:

	Monthly Status Report.
	Review of Debathena Collaboration Document
	Athena 10 Status review.
	Metrics

Meeting notes:

I. Review Athena 10 bugs and issues in go-live with Production Release
     Blockers:
ATN-1/debathena-148: Disable GNOME defaults. Write our own. wdc/jdreed
own.
	ATN-10 (New attach/detach)
ATN-53 (Firefox Kiosk Mode) Progress. Basic thing working.
ATN-14 (Quickstation bugme) Prototype done. broder owns finishing.
ATN-8 (Graceful update) broder will confirm if patches will work from
Intrepid to Jaunty and package it.
debathena-131 (dvips uses a4 paper and silently fails to print) Fix
known. broder will package it.
     Critical:
ATN-31 (Reboot on logout) Any new clues? Adding verbosity made it
happen less often. Enqueued a change to fuser which may change things.
ATN-61/debathena-153 (Show output of .xsession-errors) Xconsole. Do it
with all the dotfile cleanups.
ATN-50 (Kernel oops from AFS) wdc will Nudge upstream AFS
     Other Major:
debathena-154 (zenity dialog to warn of trackerd indexing) jdreed has
implemented, either he or broder will package.
ATN-43 (Java apps see no printers in cluster environment) jdreed has
tested. The root cause is still unclear.
ATN-29 (Don't scan local network for printers in cluster) Cluster will
get its own printer config. broder is investigating.
ATN-46 (Improve CUPS integration) Still a top 10 issue?
ATN-18 (workstation metapackage) It's the timing of the cut-over.

New:
* alexp's problem tickles a bug in dpkg diversion of already diverted
config files.
* fuser needs to be updated to less nastily kill things.
* OpenJDK plugin tries to open a fifo in AFS homedir. Reg App does not
work well. Revert to Sun JDK.
* Bringing debathena-thirdparty online: Remove mit-scheme, and make it
part of cluster install. amb owns.

Q1: Any issues to add/change from Top 10 list?
Add: openJDK revert, alexp diverted config file.

Q2: Have we achieved consensus on bringing bashrc and cshrc into
sync? Yes: Bring tcsh and bash configs into sync, by dropping Athena
tcsh changes that were not adopted upstream. There will also be scripts
to fix old dot files. jdreed will organize the work.

II. Metrics to measure relevant Athena 10 usage.

Q3: What do people think of enabling popcon in -cluster or even -
workstation?
     See: http://popcon.debian.org/

Unfortunately, the popcon logs would disappear on chroot logout.

Q4: Can we make use of a popcon feed to measure use of
interesting packages, and
begin answering the question, "What are people using Athena for?"

Something like popcon might be useful to us.

Q5: Do people see opportunities to display useful metrics using
cacti?
     See: http://www.cacti.net/

20 mins of discussion that could be summarized as: We need a dialog with
those who need the data to find out what are truly useful metrics and
displays that can be produced at reasonable effort levels. We think
working directly with Mike Gettes is probably the best way forward.

III. Other:

Q6: What sort of "Debathena Production Roll-out" page, if any do we want
on the Athena 10 Wiki.

Use the debathena web pages for roll-out updates for casual users.
Use the Athena 10 wiki pages, not a special roll-out page for internal
project tracking. Perhaps add further summary information.

-Bill
