I apologize for taking so long to do this. I'm not much of a pine
expert, and it was very easy to let other stuff take precedence.

I've looked at the current pine stock answers for guidance on how to
word-smith this information.
I hope I've crafted something that's in the right ball park.

I have tested these instructions using Athena 10 alpine, and Athena 9
pine.
The note about "novalidate-cert" is appropriate to Athena 9 pine, and
probably the pine we distribute from the Software Download page since
it's based on the Athena 9 pine.

Q: How do I configure Pine for use with Exchange?

A: To enable Pine to see your email on the Exchange Server do the
following:

	Start Pine
Select the (s) command to perform setup.
Select the (l) sub-command to alter Collection Lists
Select the (a) sub-command to Add a new Collection. This will teach
Pine about Exchange.

In the form that appears fill in:
	Nickname: Exchange
	Server: imap.exchange.mit.edu/ssl

	Leave "Path" and "View" blank.
You can choose some other name than "Exchange" for the nickname of
this collection.

Type the key sequence, "<CTRL>x" to save the form.
Type e to exit the Setup command.

Result:

Pine will now know about mail folders on the Exchange server as a
Mail Collection.
You will be able to view messages and manipulate folders within your
Exchange
	email store.
You will be prompted by Pine for your user name and password to
access the Exchange
email store. The connection to Exchange is encrypted.

Note:

Versions of Pine that have not been compiled with the MIT Certifying
Authority
certificate will give you a warning about not being able to validate
the certificate
	for imap.exchange.mit.edu.
You can safely ignore this warning.
To make this warning go away, you can add "novalidate-cert" to the
server
specification for the Exchange email store so that the server name
will be:
		imap.exchange.mit.edu/ssl/novalidate-cert

To switch Pine to using Exchange as your default, INBOX do the
following:

Select the (s) command to perform setup.
Select the (c) sub-command to alter configurations.
Use the arrow keys to highlight "Inbox Path" and press the <Enter> key.
When prompted for "Name of Inbox server" delete the offered default
and specify:
		imap.exchange.mit.edu/ssl
When prompted for the folder to use for INBOX press the <Enter> key
to accept the default.
Type e to exit the Setup command.
Type y to commit the changes you have made.

Result:

Pine will look in the Exchange email store for your new mail on
start-up instead of
the previous MIT default of using the non-Exchange IMAP store.
You will be prompted by Pine for your user name and password to
access the Exchange
email store. The connection to Exchange is encrypted.

To go back to using the non-Exchange IMAP store as your default
INBOX, do the following:
Select the (S) command to perform setup.
Select the (C) sub-command to alter configurations.
Use the arrow keys to highlight "Inbox Path" and press the <Enter> key.
When prompted for "Name of Inbox server" specify:
		mit.edu/hesiod/imap
When prompted for the folder to use for INBOX press the <Enter> key
to accept the default.
Type E to exit the Setup command.
