Since there is a lot of interest in the sparc4's, and there are
various rumors around:

1. Contrary to the rumor I heard, sun did NOT reengineer the
motherboard and floppy drive (sigh of relief). From the software
point of view, nothing has changed.

2. They DID modify the chassis, CDROM drive, and floppy. The new
floppy is a half-inch, the new CDROM drive 1.6 inch. Outside
dimensions of the chassis remain untouched.

Old floppy and CDROM were both 1 inch.

BUT...new floppy and new cdrom require new chassis. old chassis can
only use old floppy and old cdrom.

This is true for both sparc4 AND sparc5.

Transition schedule:

Last order of OLD: August 23, 1996
Last shipment: Nov. 22, 1996

First order of NEW: May 21, 1996
First shipment: July 12, 1996

(THIS IS INFO FROM AN INTERNAL SUN ANNOUNCEMENT--PLEASE DON'T
EMBARRASS OUR SALES CONTACT TOO MUCH, OKAY?)
