I've been playing with the ATI Proprietary device driver for X under
Ubuntu, SuSE, and RHEL 4.5. It works fine in all those places.
But when I go to Athena, although the ATI installer says it's
successfully installed the driver, it does not work. The fglrx
module init fails saying (in Xorg.0.log) that the DRI initialization
failed. Earlier it said GART initialization failed and so its
disabling DRI.
I remember seeing something about certain versions of agpgart not
being compatible with the driver, and it may be that the kernel has
too old an agpgart. At any rate, we will need to do some more
debugging/understanding/updating before the ATI driver that works on
the Optiplex 745 will work for Athena.
