Athena Release 8.0 for Suns

On Tuesday, June 18th, Athena Release 8.0 will enter the next stage of
testing ("early test") on Sun workstations.  This round of testing
should include many staff machines as well as a few machines in general
use clusters.  Earlier today, a message went out to the contacts for all
Suns configured to take this release.  Please send me (dot@mit.edu) the
hostname of your workstation if you did not receive a message this
morning and are willing and able to take this release on your Sun
SPARC/5 or SPARC/classic.  (If you have or will have a SPARC/4, you will
must to take release 8.0.)

This release will become public in early to mid July and includes the
following features:

	* Solaris 2.4 with AFS 3.4a
	  ($ATHENA_SYS = sun4m_54)
	* Emacs 19.30 is the default version of emacs.  
	* Emacs 18 is available as a separate command 
	  (/usr/athena/bin/emacs18)
	* /usr/athena/bin/cc now points to sun cc
	* Transcript 4.1
	* MIME support has been built into MH but is turned off in 
	  the default environment.
