I agree with Andrew. Specifically 3 action items are called for:
1. Please change the version page disk from "6GB" to "6GB minimum, 12
+GB recommended".
2. PXE was broken on the GX620's. It apparently took Dell 6 months
to come up with a BIOS upgrade that fixed the problem. The 620's we
will get have a later BIOS. I think the way to properly document
this is to amend http://itinfo.mit.edu/article.php?id=7938
and Change:
PXE support is broken on some revisions of Broadcom tg3 chipsets,
such as those used in the Dell Optiplex GX620. If your system
contains this hardware, see the Athena Linux Installer Instructions
in the bootkit locker for details on making an Athena Linux install CD.
to:
There were problems with PXE support with early versions of the BIOS
in the Dell Optiplex GX620, and other systems incorporating some
versions of the Broadcom tg3 ethernet NIC. If PXE does not work for
your hardware, check with your PC's manufacture for a BIOS upgrade.
If upgrading to the latest BIOS does not get PXE working, then you
will need to install with a CD. For details on how to make an
install CD, see the <link>Athena Linux Installer Instructions</link>
in the bootkit locker.
3. Yes, http://itinfo.mit.edu/answer.php?id=8151
is obsolete with the new install media. Please change the answer
part to:
The Dell GX620 has a newer SATA interface than older versions of the
Athena installer recognize. Use the version 5a (released August 2006)
or newer install media.
