Apologies for the lack of advance notice on this patch release.

The Athena 9.4.22 patch release (9.4.23 for Solaris) is currently
scheduled for this evening (Tuesday January 17). Changes include:

On both platforms:
  * Gaim has been locally modified to support GSSAPI authentication,
fix SSL connection stalling problems, and properly handle
    recursive buddy adds under Jabber.
  * A security vulnerability was fixed in Athena's build of OpenSSL.
  * gconfd should now be properly shut down at login time, fixing bugs
where settings changes made shortly before logout aren't saved.
On Solaris:
  * Sun patches 119254-10 and 121229-01 were added to fix bugs in the
Sun package management tools and fix a security vulnerability in
    OpenSSL.
  * The libiconv and gettext man pages are now installed in the same
    place as other man pages.
  * ldapsearch should function properly.
On Linux:
  * Several packages were updated to keep current with RHEL 4.

If you have a machine set AUTOUPDATE=false, you can update it manually
after the release goes out by doing a console login as root and
running "update_ws".

Please send any questions or comments to release-team@mit.edu. Please
report any bugs you find with the "sendbug" command.
