Simple. It is part of the package that lets people like you and I support
the rest of the environment. If there are AFS problems and we can't debug
them because of AFS dependancies then they don't get fixed as quickly. That
sounds to me like a good reason for a supported configuration :-)

Ths is what I decided to do shortly after I sent the mail. My understanding
is that I could re-tar the os and then synctree the /srvd stuff over it and
that should work, but if I did that it would make bug reporting harder.
