This is a reminder that the Athena 9.4.16 patch release (9.4.17 for
Solaris) is currently scheduled for the evening of Monday September
19. Changes include:
On both platforms:
* An OpenAFS upgrade
* A fix for nautilus's trash handling
On Linux:
* A fix for the login hang problem
* A Java upgrade
On Solaris:
* Added back the gmp library in /usr/athena/lib
* Fixes for revert-to-sawfish and sawfish
Due to a bug in the old Java RPM, the following error message will
appear during the Linux update:
- j2sdk ###########################################/var/tmp/rpm-tmp.25832: command substitution: line 62: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `"'
/var/tmp/rpm-tmp.25832: command substitution: line 63: syntax error: unexpected end of file
This error is harmless.
If you have a machine set AUTOUPDATE=false, you can update it manually
after the release goes out by doing a console login as root and
running "update_ws".
Please send any questions or comments to release-team@mit.edu. Please
report any bugs you find with the "sendbug" command.
