1. AFS

Garry imported a new version of AFS this week, but Andrew's testing
indicates that it does not fix our problem.

Andrew has a way to reproduce the problem at will, but seemingly
irrelevant changes to the setup cause the problem not to appear, so we
don't have a way for Garry or Derrick to reproduce the problem yet,
which interferes with debugging. Andrew will work on his reproduction
recipe.

Our last reasonable release window is the week of August 29. We need
about two weeks of testing to have any confidence in a fix, so the
drop-dead date for a fix is August 16.

We discussed two contingency plans:

  1. Make a big pull-up to 9.3 with Firefox, gaim, etc. (but not GNOME
or Evolution) and leave 9.4 unreleased until IAP.

  2. Make a release of 9.4 on RHEL 3, with the old AFS code, and
     release that instead of 9.4-on-RHEL4.

The second option orphans test machines, mostly. (It may be possible
to downgrade from RHEL 4 to RHEL 3, but there are issues with the boot
loader and X configuration.) It also presents an issue for Alex and
other locker maintainers, because the 9.4 sysname will be i386_rhel3
under this plan. Nevertheless, the general preference in the room was
in favor of option 2.

Greg will begin preparing the contingency release immediately, and
will have alpha machines start testing it as soon as it is ready. If
we fix the AFS bug, the alpha machines can be re-migrated to
9.4-RHEL4.

2. Legal restrictions on Solaris 10 source

Sun wanted to add some new restrictions on what we can do with the
Solaris 10 source. None of them were an issue for us.

3. Status report

(Sent separately.)
