servers.

next Athena release.

discuss to GForge.
DELAYED: Integrate OpenAFS 1.3.7? for Linux 2.6 and Solaris 10 support.

PROGRESS: Begin integrating Solaris 10 for summer's Athena full release.

Community Milestones Met:

Other Accomplishments:

* Responded to security compromises.
* Began testing of Athena 9.4.0 in preparation for Alpha release.
* Confirmed deliverables for Summer release and set tentative strategy
moving forward.
* Produced package lists for integrating RHEL 4 into Athena release and
began testing.
* Started collecting weekly and monthly statistics for number of logins
to Athena machines.
* Determined there was probably no need for a March patch release that
was originally listed in the February planned Community Milestones.

Next Community Milestone(s):

Bugfix patch release when next needed.

Issues:

OpenAFS and the Linux community are not doing as good a job of working
together as we would like. Getting a working AFS as we adopt RHEL 4
with the 2.6 kernel will be a bit of extra work.

We have received a request through Alex Prengel to integrate Java3d
into the Athena release. This work is non-trivial. We are awaiting a
management decision as to whether or not to proceed with it. Some time
has gone by without a response. We will ask again.

A timeout problem with AFS in disconnected operation (If you start AFS
when you're off-net you hang for a long time.) was thought to be fixed
but is not. We consider this a show-stopper for graceful disconnected
operation, and have put other disconnected operation work on hold until
this issue is resolved.

Key learnings:

Additional comments:

Many items that were marked "DELAYED" this month were assigned to Garry
Zacheiss who was off doing other stuff. We're taking action to get the
items resolved.

Athena Monthly machine counts:

Method: On install, machines get a unique ID. Each day every system
reports its existence to a central syslog. This method over-counts
systems installed multiple times. Systems running Athena than 9.0 or
earlier are not counted.

SYSTYPE 9/2004 10/2004 11/2004 12/2004 1/2005 2/2005 Delta
LINUX 790 736 753 737 746 770 +
SUN 674 659 647 632 645 621 -

Monthly Athena Login counts:

Method: By reviewing of the logs of the service that makes
personalized notifications to users at login time, we are able to count
the number of unique Athena logins. Here we display the total number
of logins over a four week period, the number of logins by unique user
ID and the median number of logins per unique user ID.

Date: 3/05
Total: 353970
Unique: 10847
Median: 12
