I've now gotten emacs 18.59 to build on the SGIs (without dumping, so
it will take an extra few seconds to load). It took about an hour of
work.

I plan to implement the following plan to smoothe the transition to
emacs 19:

	* The packs will have a /usr/athena/bin/emacs18.

	* etags, ctags, and emacsclient will be the emacs 19 versions,
of course; the emacs 19 emacsclient will interoperate with
the emacs 18 server, so this isn't a problem.

[The above two steps are already done for the sun4m_54 packs.]

	* The startup banner for the normal emacs will end with:

NOTE: Emacs 19.30 is now the default emacs. If you
need to use Emacs 18, you can run "emacs18" for now.
emacs18 is provided only to ease the transition to
Emacs 19.30 and will go away in the next Athena
		release.

	* The startup banner for emacs18 will end with:

NOTE: emacs18 is provided only the ease the transition
to Emacs 19.30 and will go away in the next Athena
		release.

	* Locker maintainers should be told that they don't need to
worry about emacs 18 users starting in the fall. This
means that emacs 18 users may be unable to use stuff they're
used to using from lockers, but I don't want to make life
hard on locker maintainers for a year just to satisfy the
	  half-dozen emacs 18 die-hards.

I think it's important to provide a fallback for those few people who
need to go to a lot of effort to convert to emacs 19 and won't have
done so by July. This is especially important since we were so late
introducing emacs19 onto the packs. If anyone things this plan is a
bad idea, please tell me and we can discuss it.
