1. Sound problems on Linux
Red Hat 9 won't support the sound hardware on our new cluster
hardware. (It's only supported in the 2.4.21 kernel, which is
unlikely to show up in a Red Hat 9 errata.) Our options are:
* Build our own kernel RPMs.
* Hand-hack a kernel module to dump into place.
* Use the kernel RPMs from the next Red Hat release or its beta.
* Do an IAP update to the next Red Hat release.
We will investigate the middle two options and try to come up with a
short-term solution, and fall back to the IAP update idea if we can't
find anything better.
2. Other stuff
We briefly discussed the xlogin web browser idea (has been kicked back
to cluster discovery) and the patch release (9.2.15 in dev cell
~today, athena cell next Monday), and we did our status report.
