Ji-yong replied directly to me saying:

    Hi, Bill:

Thank you for your reply. I didn't run any hand-installing script to
install the linux, instead I ran the officially released install
script by going to Athena and copying the script into my floppy.

The ONLY difference from a package standpoint is that the person's
machine has filesystem-2.0.7-1 instead of filesystem-2.1.0-2.1 for an
Athena 9.0.24 system.

Otherwise, athinfo nde packages contains the same packages as the
list-9.0.24 control file does.

Should we believe this user's statement that the vanilla Athena install
was run? Might the install have blown out after bringing all the
packages in?

How terrible could it be if I recommended creating an
/etc/athena/version file naming 9.0.24 and having her do the update from
there?
