I believe the problem is triggered by /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/Type1;
since my original report, I was able to find this bug report at SunSolve:
**********
Description
The left panel of the Help screen shows appropriate choices, but the
right has a distorted heading, lots of whitespace, and a few scattered
icons. It occurs on the help menu and buttons for all Staroffice
programs (write, spreadsheet, etc).
Work Around
ulf.stroehler@sun.com 2002-06-25
Disable the fontdirectory for the fontserver.
- Become root
- /usr/sbin/chkfontpath
search for:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/Type1
Now remove the directory from the fontserver configuration file
(/etc/X11/fs/config)
- /usr/sbin/chkfontpath -r /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/Type1
Now restart the fontserver
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart
***********
I tested this and verified that it makes the problem go away. Also, checking
the catalogue files on astrophel and telharmonium shows this:
athena% diff catalogue.astrophel catalogue.telharmonium
22a23
> /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID,
38d38
< /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/Type1,
which is consistent. So the question is, can we apply this work-around in the
Athena release? If not, Star Office help won't work on almost all Linux
machines.
