1. 7.7 patch is out in testing. We expect it to go to full release
in early August.

2. 8.0 for the SGI will be available in September, and we expect to
release it at that point.

3. 8.0 for the other platforms will be available in October 95. We
may want to begin testing at that point. However, given the desire to
move to newer versions of the operating systems on most platforms, it
may not be useful to plan to distribute this.

Instead, we propose using 8.0 as a basis for moving to newer OS
versions, roughly on the following schedule:

10/95 IRIX 5.3 with AFS 3.4 (required for 133 mhz R4600PC sales)
11/95 Solaris 2.4 with AFS 3.4 (required for sparc4)
1/96 AIX 4.1 with AFS 3.4 (required for 40P)
3/96 IRIX 6.0 with AFS 3.4 (required for 1996 SGI systems)

Note: Solaris 2.5 will also be available in the next year.
Alpha OSF/1 systems will be in use by reengineering and others
Ultrix 4.3a or 4.4 may be needed

This projection raises some significant issues:

a. Do we need to do AIX 4.1? Can we avoid expending resources on
this platform?

b. Do we need to do the Alpha systems? Can we avoid expending
resources on this platform?

c. Can we get Ezra to do the Ultrix systems?

d. Can we "lock in" the resources to perform these ports and keep
this schedule? I.e., this calls for ports on a continuing basis over
the next year--can we get some kind of priority so that people working
on this don't get arbitrarily yanked off into other work?

e. Are there other resources (e.g. W91?) which could help with some
of this work (e.g. the AIX programming)?
