Subject: Re: Thoughts about gopher on new clients
X-Orgs: MIT SIPB VWA DIMINS
X-Shabby: not
Greg brought up the question about whether we need to build gopher and
xgopher for new platforms (including SGI), as one can get to them from any
Web client using the URL
gopher://gopher
What do people think?
I'm in favor of not having to support the clients anymore, but there
are still some gopher+ servers out there that people use, and there
aren't yet any gopher+-capable web browsers, so...
; ls /mit/infoagents/arch/sgi_52/bin/*goph*
/mit/infoagents/arch/sgi_52/bin/gopher-BETA
/mit/infoagents/arch/sgi_52/bin/gophfilt-BETA
/mit/infoagents/arch/sgi_52/bin/xgopher-BETA
They've been there for months (like, 2 :-). They'll stop being beta
when the infoagents locker goes out of beta, this summer.
