       Hi Lou,

I'm looking into this on our Suns; I can reproduce the case of
getting fsck to attach unlinked directories at boot time more easily
under Solaris 8 than I can under Solaris 7. I've currently not been
able to reproduce it for filesystems with ufs logging enabled (which
shouldn't need to fsck). Turning this on is our tentative plan for
dealing with this.

On Linux, it's a little bit more of an open issue. ext2 (the
filesystem Linux is using) is known to be less robust than we would
like, and there isn't any built in logging/journaling filesystem we can
use. Andrew, do you have any suggestions?

The network outages of late have certainly not been helping with
these problems, and might account for why machines seem to be crashing
more.

Garry
