I will make this change to os-checkfiles, but note that it does not
really fix the problem. (It is conceivable that leaving a mismatched
file in place could also result in serious damage). We should devise
better procedures to ensure that the stats files are correct, and in
sync with the os volume. Since automating the generation of the stats
files is not really feasible, perhaps we should have a tool that checks
their validity, that could be run prior to putting out a release. I'm
willing to write such a tool, if it makes sense to incorporate it into
the release process.
