It may be that you have an unusual frame buffer which is missing from
the release or was desupported by Sun in Solaris 8. The latter seems
unlikely, though, since you have a relatively new machine.
Can you please send me the output of "sysinfo | grep buffer"? That
will help narrow down the problem.
