From: "Richard Basch" <basch@MIT.EDU>

The following is a list of everything I would like to see in the new AIX
acceptance release:

AIX 3.2.5 (base operating system update)

rc.athena
error logging (syslogd, new daemons)
tsmlogin
snmpd (new version)
from
newsyslog (possibly)
xterm (possibly)
tcsh (possibly)

Additions? Comments?

plus config_afs

1. How many of these are changes to "common" software (i.e. software
in use on other platforms)?

(actually, are all of these changes RS6K only?)

2. You say possibly. Does this indicate the changes have not been
written?

3. The current plan for handling this was to implement the changes on
a small group (the early test systems) in the near future, with the
aim of possibly upgrading everyone sometime after that.

That plan depended on how a reasonably rare resource (Craig) gets
yanked around.
	1. by SGI test cluster
	2. by RS6Kswat
	3. by Solaris AFS 3.3a upgrade
	4. by Emacs 19/edsc upgrade

and assorted odd duties (development process, plans for the Summer
release, etc.)

my guess is that current conditions could result in the AIX changes
going to the early test systems during the first or second week in
March, if the changes are ready.

If feasible, we planned to group Solaris AFS 3.3a, AIX 3.2.5, Emacs
19, and Edsc changes (so as to avoid the appearance of lots of little
changes)

4. Could you add documentation on what the changes mean for the
ordinary user and what (if anything) they should look for in the
testing phase? The more complete the package, the easier it is to get
it put in place.

thank you for providing a list of the changes.
mike
