Hello, I'd like to request that the subject topic be discussed as it's
becoming more and more of a problem generally with anything that uses
Java 1.3 on Suns- it appears to be essentially broken, with a wide
variety of problems including Java applications that crash, hang or
exhibit non-consistently reproducible crashes. Printing is particularly
problematic.
Examples include the new Matlab 6 Java Desktop, the new Splus 6 Java
GUI, the appletviewer in Java 1.3.0 and Forte for Java 2.0. We're
also having Java problems with Netscape today that might be related to
this with a production JDK 1.3.0 release I installed yesterday to
replace an older 1.3.0 beta (I'll be looking into that as soon as I
finish this Email).
Sun says that a package of about 12 Solaris patches needs to be installed
for Java 1.3 to run properly on Solaris 2.7. We don't have most of these
in the release yet. I passed this on to Miki last week and she said she
is working on it. I'm asking that trying to get these installed be given
high priority- most of the vendor tech support departments say they can't
do anything to help us until all the patches are installed.
Thanks,
Alex
