SGI finally released the IRIX 6.5.7 overlay a few days ago, so I am
now proceeding with our IRIX update. The major parts of the update
will be:
- Upgrade from IRIX 6.5.3m to 6.5.7m. Mostly, this gives us many bug
fixes, but also means we'll run an officially supported release for
the 300 MHZ O2.
- Upgrade MIPSpro compilers from 7.2.1.2m to 7.3.1.1m.
- Upgrade to the latest rev of IRIX "Applications" (Feb 2000 distribution).
This includes Cosmo Player 2.1.2.
Roughly half of the existing packages will be upgraded in the update.
In initial testing of installing only the changed packages, I've had
problems with intermediate conflicts in the first inst pass. Since
removing and reinstalling all packages would make the update take much
longer, I may resort to overriding conflicts for the first pass.
