ah, i misunderstood, then. in general, from a support perspective as much
consistency as possible between platforms is a good thing. i'm guessing
the same is true from a documentation perspective. if solaris is going to
stick with rc.conf, i would therefore prefer that linux does also, perhaps
using the method jhawk suggests.
