Preface: Naomi is aware that the ultimate plan is for a patch release
sometime in Spring with a 24-bit login option. The question is about
the current state:
>If it's possible to make something such as a script in the
>interim that isn't that transparent for the general user to do, but
>that Tom Grayson could do to force the X-Server to start up in 24-bit
>mode, that would be sufficient for the time being.
>
>It's not crucial, but it would be awfully nice.

Subject: 24 bit graphics on the new Ultra5's
Hello Abby -
Please remind me. If there is an application that can work either
on an 8-bit machine or on a 24-bit machine, and if someone wants
to run it on the new Ultra5's that will be coming in to retain
full 24-bit color depth, is this possible the way the release
currently stands? If so, how would one do this?
We're considering putting one of those machines into 56-114, a
lecture hall that currently has a SPARC4, and Tom Grayson would
really like to have the 24-bit color capability in addition to the
fast 333 MHz processor.
