When a printer fails, a lot of extraneous jobs
get backed up on the queue. there are situations
when the failure is recent, where it is unclear as
to which of those jobs belong to logged-in users.

It would be trivial to write a perl script such as:

zwriteprinterqueue printername

that would do an lpq, extract the usernames
on the list, and attempt to zwrite all of them.

you'd then say something like, 'i am clearing
the printer queue... please resend your print job if you are
still interested in it'

this would also make administrators feel better
about deciding to clear the queue if it is uncertain
whether or not that is a good idea.

I'd be happy to write this after finals are over...

Mike
