I am glad to see that you included Linux and NetBSD in your list of
platforms.

I assume that you are referring to the kernel version there. The 2.1.x
series of the Linux kernel are development kernels and as such are not
stable. It would be unlikely that vendors develop for that kernel. In
any case, AFS is unlikely to be available for 2.1.x. The SIPB
linux-dev team is planning on releasing a new version of Linux-Athena
based on the RedHat 4.2 distribution which uses the 2.0.30 kernel.
It may also be useful to keep in mind that there are other
distributions of Linux and software may have hidden dependencies on
one distribution.
