You can probably log in as root by typing ^P at the xlogin prompt and
then doing a console login.

Interesting. You don't have a local version of the reactivate script,
do you? The problem is in this line, near the end:
/bin/athena/attach $quiet -h -n -o hard -O $SYSLIB
If the "-O" option isn't present, that would explain your problem.
Why the "-O" option wouldn't be there, I'm not sure, unless it's the
result of some local customization. (What mkserv services do you have
installed?)
