Project Name: IS Web Redesign Project
Project Leader: Christine Cavanna
                 Jeff Reed
Report Date: November 7, 2002
URL: http://web.mit.edu/is/delivery/isweb/

Accomplishments in October
- Continued drafting Guidelines and Policies for adding, maintaining and
   auditing IS web pages.
- Finalized the IS Web Site Design
- Continued to refine Products and Services for an alphabetic listing to
be including in the new web site.
- Continued work on content for topic pages.

Goals for November
- Complete draft of Guidelines and Policies for adding, maintaining and
auditing IS web pages. Visit with Libraries staff to get input on their
online guidelines documentation and indexing for our products and svcs.
- Continue working with staff on content for Topic Pages of the web site.
- Continue development, research and data gathering for content of various
   web site pages.
- Work on drafting an Implementation Plan -- phase in approach
- Finalize list of Products & Services to be used in the Alphabetical
listing page on new web site.
- Email Guidelines and Policies to Advisory Council for review -- target
   Mid-November.
- Prototyped Web site finalized and testing in usability.

Next Community Milestone
- NOTE: There will not be a milestone that is visible to the community (MIT)
until the implementation of the new pages. However, there are planned check
in's with the Advisory Council, IS staff and with Usability testers during
   the project.

Issues/Learnings (ongoing)
- Project is very large based on size of Web site
- There will need to be many sub-teams to keep critical check-ins for usability
testing, quality assurance and information architecture throughout
the project
- Team will need to propose an implementation plan regarding how the
   content will be converted/transferred into the newly designed site; by whom;
and by when (this will need to be a phased approach). This may be the
   largest part of the task.
- No matter what direction is finally decided on with the site, we will not
   be able to please everyone.
- Team spent a lot of time in Design phase; some extra time can be attributed
to timing issues and delays in schedules over the summer months. Another
reason has been a difficulty to come to consensus on design color, layout
and labelling. At beginning of project we decided to use the consensus model
for decision making, however we did not clearly document that and a fall
back position. We have now identified that we will use consensus with a fall
back of Sponsors and team leads if no decision at team level.

Team Dynamics
- Need to keep energy levels up as we move into the next phase; a lot of
content to be reviewed, written and decisions to be made.
- Team dynamics seem to be improving slightly now that design has been decided.
Feel some sense of concern from team in timeline for content into the site.
