Hi Stephen,

You are correct, is not possible to install software that persists between sessions.  We periodically consider adding packages to the suite of software installed on all cluster machines, if the software is available in the Ubuntu repositories.  If you let us know the name of the relevant package(s), we can consider this, though at this point, we're unlikely to make any changes between now and February.

That having been said, if you're hosting this site on Scripts, then the post commit hook is likely running on Scripts, and thus the software would need to be installed on the Scripts hosts, not the Athena cluster machines.  You can contact scripts@mit.edu to request the installation of software on the Scripts hosts.

Finally, you can install the software in AFS, such as in your home directory, or in a group or organizational locker.  If the software is in AFS, then you can run it from any Athena workstation or Scripts host.
