Hi Hans, 

This bug you encountered is related to a bug for which we have been testing a fix.  The DBus service doesn't start upon login, preventing the use of peripheral devices (such as CDS, flash drives) and causing problems with sound.  We hope to release the fix later today after some additional testing.  

The reason VLC works is that it accesses the drive directly, rather than using DBus.
