This is now in testing, but unfortunately the "fix" involves disabling auto-configuration, since there's no good way to do this, and Mozilla is moving to a new method anyway.  However, existing Thunderbird users should still be fine.

Barring any unforseen problems, I'd anticipate this being in production by next week.

If you could pass this information on to the professor, that would be helpful.
