When Bill first had his run-in with the session options, the Athena
xsession script checked if you were running the default session, and
didn't act if you weren't.
That check has been removed. I believe there is no functional
difference at this point between "run Xclient script" and "GNOME". The
only plumbing difference is whether the X session scripts wind up
running /usr/bin/x-session-manager (which is a symlink
to /usr/bin/gnome-session) or /usr/bin/gnome-session.
