Okay, so let's talk about the KLI website.
For several years now, we've been aware that the KLI's website has been
moribund.
Changes for a complete overall have been discussed at qep'a'mey, but it
still hasn't
quite come together. And so, it is time to try something new, something
different.
My intention going forward is to take our massive website and balkanize it.
The effect
of this will be to make each piece much more manageable, putting
responsibility for
one specific aspect of it in the hands of one specific individual. This
will also empower
more people as "officers" of the KLI, and (in theory) inspire a new
generation of
inclusive in our community.
I envision a collection of KLI satellite websites, either hosted on the
same server as
kli.org (which server will be changing soon) or as located by the
individuals taking
responsibility for their respective sites. Such satellites will includes
specifics such as
the "New Words" list, a revised KLI Wiki, KLI Registration and Membership
page,
Mailing List Archive, and more.
There will be certain cosmetic elements that will be kept in common across
these sites
(to make it clear that the individual pieces are all part of one larger
whole), but
otherwise the idea is to grant as much autonomy and responsibility to the
person
handling the site as possible.
I would welcome your feedback and response to this idea. I'd like to have
input of ideas
for specific sites we should have in addition to the examples I've listed
above. And I
most especially want to hear from Klingonists with the technical skill and
the enthusiasm
to take on the responsibility of one or more of these KLI satellite
websites.
