Subject: Announce jumpnbump 1.35

Jump n Bump is a funny multiplayer game about cute little
fluffy bunnies, which is both fun and addictive for the
whole family.

You can completely design your own levels, and sprites!
There's more than 250 levels already available.

Help is needed to fix a bug in -scaleup mode on ppc-type
cpus where two pixels are swapped. Help is also needed
to re-implement the old networking code.

From: Constantin Kaplinsky <const@ce.cctpu.edu.ru>
Subject: TightVNC 1.2.5 released
Date: 12 Aug 2002 23:11:33 GMT

Hello everyone,

I'm pleased to announce new TightVNC 1.2.5 release.

TightVNC is an improved version of VNC, free cross-platform remote
desktop package. It offers many new features, improvements and
bugfixes. Unlike the original VNC, it can work well over slow Internet
connections, and provides more configuration options. TightVNC can be
used to perform remote administration tasks in Unix/Linux, Windows,
and mixed network environments. It can be useful in distance learning
and remote customer support. TightVNC is freely available under the
terms of the GNU General Public License, and is fully compatible with
the standard VNC. For more details, please visit the TightVNC Web
site:

                       http://www.tightvnc.com/

Both Win32 and Unix/Linux versions exist. RPM packages for Red Hat
Linux 7.x are available (built and tested under Red Hat Linux 7.2).
To download new release, follow the links at the download page:

                http://www.tightvnc.com/download.html

As compared to the previous version, TightVNC 1.2.5 adds a number of
new features, improvements and bugfixes. Here is a summary of changes
introduced in the Unix/Linux version of TightVNC 1.2.5:

  - Implemented new feature to specify applet parameters in URL
requests being sent to the built-in HTTP server. Added support for
new $PARAMS variable in .vnc HTML templates.

  - Added the possibility to keep users' vnc directories under /tmp,
as suggested by Ivan Popov. This mode can be enabled by editing
the $vncUserDir variable in the vncserver script. Also, new -t
option has been implemented in the vncpasswd utility which allows
to change VNC password files under /tmp.

  - Applied Xvnc -viewonly patch from Ehud Karni.

  - Applied Linux/PowerPC Xvnc fix from Peter A. Castro.

  - Bug fixed: Xvnc failed to reset compression level and JPEG image
quality on reading lists of encodings supported by clients.

  - Made the viewer handle XCursor encoding operating on the
framebuffer instead of setting new cursors directly in X.

  - Applied a number of porting fixes from Ki Networks, Inc.

  - Java viewer: Added new feature allowing to save RFB sessions in
FBS files compatible with rfbproxy. This feature works only if JVM
security manager allows access to the local filesystem, which is
usually true only when the viewer is used as a standalone
application or if the viewer applet is cryptographically signed.
New "Record" button will appear in the button panel if this
    feature is enabled.

  - Java viewer: Added new "ENCPASSWORD" parameter, modified patch
    from Peter Astrand.

  - Java viewer: Applied patch from Peter Astrand to fix problems with
    Swedish keys and broken JVMs.

  - Other minor fixes and cleanups.

--
With Best Wishes,
Constantin

From: Thibault Godouet <fcron@free.fr>
Subject: Fcron 2.9.1 - a replacement for Vixie cron and anacron
Date: 12 Aug 2002 23:11:38 GMT

What is new in this release (2.9.1) ?
==============================

- fcron can now be run without root's privileges (see FAQ)
- added configure's option --with-boot-install .
- Minor change in the PAM code of fcron : may work better on some systems.
- configure script now uses getpwnam() and getgrnam() instead of reading
directly /etc/passwd and /etc/group : this makes easier the use of
NIS, LDAP, etc.
- Bug fix : using some "cmd > /dev/stderr" (or stdout) in a script used
to make fcron
send a bogus output mail. (rewrite of the code managing the output of
jobs)
- Bug fix : typo error prevented fcrontab to be compiled on some systems.
- Minor bug fix about stdout option.
- Minor bug fix : giving fcrontab's option -c a relative path now works
correctly.

What is fcron ?
==============

Fcron is a scheduler. It aims at replacing Vixie Cron, so it implements most
of its functionalities.

But contrary to Vixie Cron, fcron does not need your system to be up 7 days
a week, 24 hours a day : it also works well with systems which are
not running neither all the time nor regularly (contrary to anacrontab).

In other words, fcron does both the job of Vixie Cron and anacron, but does
even more and better :)) ...

To do so, fcron allows you to use the standard mode in which you tell
it to execute one command at a given date and hour and to make it run
a command according to its time of execution, which is normally the same as
system up time. For example :

Run the task 'save /home/ directory'
every 3h15 of system up time.

and, of course, in order to make it really useful, the time remaining until
next execution is saved each time the system is stopped.

You can also say :

run that command once between 2am and 5am

which will be done if the system is running at any time in this interval.

Fcron also includes a useful system of options, which can be applied
either to
every lines following the declaration or to a single line. Some of
the supported options permit to:
- run jobs one by one,
- set the max system load average value under which the job should be run,
- set a nice value for a job,
- run jobs at fcron's startup if they should have been run
  during system down time,
- mail user to tell him a job has not run and why,
- a better management of the mailing of outputs ...

What is planed for next releases ?

(propositions and help are welcome)

How you can help me
==================

If you'd like to help me, please contact me at :
        fcron@free.fr

Where can I get it ?
=================

You can either go to the project home page at :

http://fcron.free.fr

or get it from metalab at :

ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/daemons/cron/fcron-2.9.1.src.tar.gz
(352kB)

(I've sent the file but it may take some time before it is available on
metalab)

or get it from seul.org (USA) :

ftp://ftp.seul.org/pub/fcron/fcron-2.9.1.src.tar.gz (352kB)

I hope you will enjoy it,

Thibault.

I found a terrible memory leak in the musical
score editor NotEdit.

All NoteEdit users had problems with memory
(even Linux crashes because of swap overflow)
should try NoteEdit-2.0.7:

http://rnvs.informatik.tu-chemnitz.de/~jan/noteedit/noteedit.html

All those who are not familar with NoteEdit: It
is a graphical musical score editor with a lot
of features. Among them:

  - import/export midi
  - export LilyPond, MusiXTeXm PMX
  - read/record from MIDI keyboard
  - replay whereby highting the playe notes
  - transpose
  - ...
