Hi,

I have just uploaded on snusite my lbxproxy for Sun 4.1.3 that include
the latest update on LBX (cf, Xwindows fix-11). This binary is needed
you have XFree 3.1.1, but won't work with XFree 3.1.0 (for that, try
the older lbxproxy already on sunsite).

This binary will probably end up in X11/xutils/compress/... with older
lbxproxies.

To get LBX working on XFree 3.1.1, read /usr/X11R6/lib/Server/README.
You just have to re-link your Xserver. I have as well proxy Sun 4.1.3_U1
and Solaris 2.3 but I haven't played much with them. You can get them
at ftp.crim.ca:/risq/LBX. I should upload them whenever I feel they work
OK.

From the README provided with LBX:

The goal of LBX is to improve the startup time, performance, and interactive
feel of X applications run over low bandwidth transports. LBX does this by
interposing a "pseudo-server" (called the "proxy") between the X clients and
the X server. The proxy caches data flowing between the server and the
clients, merges the X protocol streams, and compresses the data that is sent
over the low bandwidth wire. The X server at the other end uncompresses the
data and splits it back out into separate request streams. The target is to
transparently make many X applications usable over 9600 baud modems.

LBX is a work in progress and as such the current version is *NOT* compatible
