I've just released a new bugfix release of e2fsprogs 0.5b, dated
11-Mar-95, which replaces 14-Feb-95 release. I encourage anyone using
the original 0.5b release, or the even older 0.5a release, to upgrade to
this latest version.
This released may be obtained via ftp from tsx-11.mit.edu, in the
directory /pub/linux/packages/ext2fs.
This is a bugfix release, which means that no new features were added.
(New features will appear in the 0.5c release, which is currently under
development.) The bugs which were fixed include:
libext2:
* Added error checking to the llseek() compat code to protect
against overflow. This only applies to 1.0 and early
1.1 kernels, which don't support the llseek() system call.
libss:
* Install the libss shared library in /lib, since it's needed by
debugfs (which is installed in /sbin).
e2fsck:
* The file type statistics counters weren't being reset when
e2fsck reran pass 1 (which it needs to do after
correcting a few types of filesystem corruption). This
was a cosemtic bug only.
* When bitmap blocks were being reallocated, a fencepost error
caused them to be allocated in the wrong block group.
mke2fs:
* Mke2fs now clears the first 512 bytes of the filesystem. This
protects the newly created filesystem from being
accidentally misidentified as a MS-DOS FAT filesystem.
* Fixed bug where mke2fs would erroneously determine the size of
a partition when (a) the filesystem was greater than 2GB
*AND* (b) the device does not support the BLKGETSIZE
ioctl.
badblocks:
* Increase the space allocated for printing the block numbers,
so that the display doesn't get corrupted when running
badblocks on a very large partition. (Cosemtic bug only).
* Removed spurious seek errors which were reported when checking
a device larger than 2GB.
fsck:
* The check to ignore filesystems with a pass number of zero was
accidentally deleted during the 0.5b development
process. This check was restored.
