Hi! Here are the notes from today's meeting.
*Action Items*
- Carla will put action items at the top of the notes from now on
- Mark will make code submission guidelines available to developers
- Peter will prepare proposed schedule and list of groups responsible
for each of the requirements for Tuesday
*Agenda
- proposed schedule
- looking over discussion items from last week
*(Revised) proposed schedule: (# = milestone)
Development now - 4/20
#Code cut 4/20 System Release notes (draft)
Technical review 4/20 - 5/1
Build starts 5/1
#Build finished 5/18
Friendly test 5/18 - 6/8
(to APT ~6/1)
Field test 6/8 - 6/29 User Release notes (draft)
#Deployment 6/29
#Released 7/6
[APT won't make the decision about whether the release is ready to
deploy, but will worry about the logistics]
*Discussion items
[Change since last time -- writeups should go here first, not directly
to ART]
- RS/6000 kermit -- 2 different issues (a) replacing default on all
platforms and (b) provide a version for rs/6000? Not change defualt on
platforms where it currently exists, but make others available.
Commands in new version are superset of commands in old; sysdev's
call. [Also, see later discussion of dial-in improvements for
high-speed transfer]
- machtype include version -- version on root, on packs, or compiled
against? Want all of the above; sysdev can put in all of them
- AIX3.2 is waiting for legal stuff to be settled. From a development
point of vies, the drop-dead date for source is unknown, still need to
think about that
- Ultrix4.2a. Ezra needs 24-hour notice before build. Can be done, go
ahead and do it.
- Dial-in improvements for high-speed transfer. Recommendation: have a
locker ("modem") full of as many of the file-transfer packages that we
know of out there; over time, develop tools and docs (hints, tips,
etc). To ART -- move kermit to a locker? symlink "kermit" to afsland?
- MH6.7.2 DCNS-apps may not have the resources, will carry forward to
next release if necessary.
- x11r5 -- sysdev owns it, will investigate at least key clients for
next week
- logout with dead mouse. The initial suggestion dealt only with the
case where you login and immediately discover that the mouse is dead.
Proposal-- warp mouse to where standard initial xterm is. Sold! Don't
need to take back to ART
- inetd -- sysdev will investigate more to make sure it's stable
enough and maintainable
*Other things
- Mark would like to get occasional status reports from developers
- Andrew v. 5? Bill is still actively working on it; Tim will tell him
new code cut date and see what he says
- Chris is looking for looping mwm's. If you see them, let them know.
Note -- I can be at the meeting this week (3/2), so Dot has graciously
agreed to take notes.
