Announcing availability of Head of Information Systems position

The Galter Health Sciences Library, Northwestern University, Chicago
Campus, seeks Head of Information Systems, an exciting new position for the
library.  The Galter Library faces a major renovation and expansion,
including a new information system that will incorporate connections to
NOTIS, user access to databases and staff communications.

DUTIES:  The Head of INformation Systems will manage the Information
Systems department and supervise the microcomputer specialist position;
engage in planning, coordinating and supporting the library's information
system and the links to existing and future systems; act as the library's
liaison to other information system units within the Medical School,
medical center and university; lead in the design and implementation of
excellent and easy-to-use academic information processsing, access and
delivery systems; manage financial aspects of electronic resources for
optimal cost and functional benefit; scan the technology and library
environments for systems and information services advances; recommend
software and hardware upgrades; and oversee and coordinate programs of
technical support and training for staff and public-access computing.

SKILLS:  The position requires excellent interpersonal skills including an
ease with teamwork, collaboration, compromise, and negotiation;
communication skills including effective oral and written skills as well as
the ability to make public presentations and to teach; supervisory skills
including an ability to motivate staff and colleagues.  Candidates must be
organized and capable of fulfilling commitments, completing projects and
meeting deadlines; knowledgeable about and familiar with system integration
and networking.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The individual filling this position must posses a Masters
degree in library, information or computer science, business administration
or information management; minimum of five years' experience with
information systems including supervision; experience in leading projects
is also highly desirable; knowledge of universities, research libraries or
healthcare environments and their information systems preferred.

SALARY:  Minimum $40,000.
