Group.)
RLG GAINS TWELVE NEW MEMBERS; ELECTS NEW BOARD MEMBERS
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 27, 1992 -- The Research Libraries Group
(RLG) has gained twelve new members in the last ten months -- seven
general members and five special members -- bringing the total RLG
membership to 121.
New as RLG general members are the British Library, The Boston
Public Library, Duke University, the Folger Shakespeare Library,
Georgetown University, the Newberry Library, and the New York
Academy of Medicine. General members are institutions that serve a
clientele of more than 5,000 faculty, academic staff, research
staff, professional staff, students, fellows, or members.
New RLG special members include the American Council of Learned
Societies, University of California at Davis Law Library, University
of Connecticut School of Law Library, the Image Permanence
Institute, and YIVO Institute of Jewish Research. Special members
serve 5,000 or fewer faculty, academic staff, research staff,
professional staff, students, fellows, or members.
Board election results
RLG held its second annual election for the consortium's board of
directors on June 25, 1992 at its annual meeting.
John H. D'Arms and Michael J. Smethurst were elected to serve
through June of 1994. D'Arms is vice provost of academic affairs,
dean of the School of Graduate Studies, professor of classical
studies, and professor of history at the University of Michigan.
Smethurst is director general of London Services at The British
Library.
Joan I. Gotwals, Paul H. Mosher, Trudy H. Peterson, and David H.
Stam were elected to serve through June of 1995. Gotwals is vice
provost and director of libraries at Emory University. Mosher is
vice provost and director of libraries at the University of
Pennsylvania, where he is also adjunct professor of history.
Peterson is assistant archivist for the National Archives. Stam is
university librarian at Syracuse University.

Millicent D. Abell, university librarian, Yale University; Joseph A.
Boisse, university librarian, University of California, Santa Barbara;
Sheila D. Creth, university librarian, University of Iowa; Larry J.
Hackman, director, New York State Archives and Records Administration;
Stanley N. Katz, president, American Council of Learned Societies;
Margaret Otto, librarian of the college, Dartmouth College; Katharine
Martinez, director, The Winterthur Library; James Michalko, RLG
president; and Charles E. Miller, director of university libraries,
Florida State University.
RLG fosters productive alliances among research libraries, archives,
museums, scholarly societies, and funding agencies that support
research in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
RLG membership is open to any nonprofit institution with an
educational, cultural, or scientific mission.
