This may be a FAQ, in which case I apologize for bringing it up again.
I am a member of the American Theological Library Association, which
includes institutional members from a number of relatively small
institutions with limited budgets and technical expertise. It also includes
several seminaries and divinity schools affiliated with fairly large
universities. This has the effect of producing some technical haves and
have-nots.
I am interested in the various ways that individuals and institutions can
get access to Internet resources, particularly e-mail, list participation,
telnet, ftp, and Usenet news. I understand that some Internet sites will
provide accounts on their systems to non-profit institutions in their area
at reasonable cost. I also understand that there are some commercial vendors
who offer access to Internet services.
I have not been able to locate a directory or guide to such providers. If
one exists, could someone point me to it? In any event, I would be
interested in hearing if anyone has come up with an original or creative way
of getting access.
Given the nature of the inquiry, it may be better to respond to me directly,
and if there is interest, I will summarize for the list.
